Armagh U3A are hosting the Songfest this year and it will take place on Wednesday, 26th April in the Market Place Theatre, Armagh. This year ten choirs are taking part in the festival, from Armagh, Belfast, East Antrim, Erne, Foyle, Newry with 2 choirs, North Down and Ards, Omagh, and Upper Bann.
Anyone wishing to attend should be seated in the theatre by 1:15 p.m. for a 1:30 start.
Tickets are available at £5 per head which includes tea/coffee and sandwiches after the performance.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 19th April, 2017 at 11.00am in County Armagh Golf Club, 7 Newry Road, Armagh. All members are eligible to attend and vote.
Proposals to amend the constitution and/or nominations for the committee must be received in writing either via post or email to the Business Secretary, Mary McVeigh (see notes below), by Monday, 10th April 2017.
Permission must be given by prospective candidates prior to their nomination. The current committee members are: Margaret Oakes (Chair), Stephen Garvin (Vice-Chair), Margaret Neville (Treasurer), David Dorman Groups (Co-ordinator), Richard Burns (Membership Secretary), Mary McVeigh (Business Secretary), Catherine McDonald (Minutes Secretary) Una Boylan, Peter Conway, Bernie Harvey, Emmett Lynch and Eleanor Pierce.

As Armagh Theatre Group celebrated its 5oth anniversary with a production of “Our Town”, the first play performed by the Group, the Singing Group provided a musical contribution to the event.
Well not actually their field but never let the chance of a good headline go past. Some photographs by Brian Weir of the Local History Group going local in Tassagh.
On Friday 2nd September, members of Armagh U3A, along with some members of Killyleagh and Upper Bann went on the “Belfast Bred” walk organised by the Kabosh Theatre Group.
Led by Barney the Baker, a chef on the Titanic, recently released from an iceberg thanks to global warming, the group called at various businesses as Barney gathered the ingredients for his next dinner. Starting at Sawers, where we sampled bread, bacon, cheese, octopus and olives; then on to Mourne Seafood for sqid, passing historic sites on our way to the John Hewitt bar to sample local beer and cider. They even stock gluten free beer. then on to McHugh’s bar one of the oldest in Belfast, for boxty and hot rock steaks. Finishing up in St George’s Market where Barney got the last of his ingredients.

The Cathedrals Partnership again invited the U3A choir to take part in it annual “An Evening with Patrick” event. This year it took place on Tuesday, 15th March in the Market Place Theatre.
The City Hotel was the venue for our annual dinner on Wednesday, 20th January.
